2. DRUUMM Youth and Young Adults of Color Conference
Thursday 7PM March 27th to Sunday 2PM March 30th, 2003
All Souls Church Unitarian Universalist 1500 Harvard St. Washington DC
The DRUUMM Youth & Young Adults Committee is organizing the 3rd DRUUMM Youth
& Young Adults conference bridging together Unitarian Universalist Youth and
Young Adults of Color, friends and Allies.
The DRUUMM Youth & Young Adults Conference will feature workshops,
activities, and worships. The Druumm activities are multidimensional,
mindful of diverse identities we bring to the community, and focus on
empowering and supporting people of color within Unitarian
Universalism. You'll have the opportunity to meet and interact with new
and old friends, discuss and exchange new ideas on how to strengthen our
community and overcome racism through resistance and by telling your
stories and hearing ours.

3. Youth and Youth Adult Anti-Racist White Allies Conference
March 27-30, 2003 UU Church of Silver Spring, Silver Spring, Maryland
How does having white skin give one privilege and power? How is this
power used and abused? How do we cultivate a community of white anti-racist
allies? How can anti-racist white allies become accountable to people
of color?
For three days this spring white UU youth and young adults will be
meeting to talk about how our faith community can start breaking down this
privilege in our churches and fellowships and the outside world. We will address
head on internalized racial superiority and work together to develop our
anti-racist analysis and create strategies for challenging racism.
This event is intended for people who have been introduced to an
anti-racist analysis, found it useful and are looking to continue this work. This
is an event for white youth and young adults dedicated to learning how to be
allies to communities and people of color.
This conference will be running parallel to the DRUUMM Youth and Young
Adults of Color conference also happening in the DC area. The two
conferences will be getting together, sharing and creating goals for
the future. This will be a working conference and there is the expectation
that people will continue with anti-racism work afterwards.

4. JPD Annual Meeting--From Kim Mason
It's that time again! The annual meeting is set for April 4-5, 2003 in
Timonium, MD and it's going to be even better than last year. Changes
include more food, better timing and a rockin' Bridging Ceremony.
I can't tell you how important it is to the JPD Board and Staff that
we have a successful bridging ceremony. To that end we have invited
Jesse Jaeger, Director of the Youth Office at the UUA, to lead
the Bridging Ceremony on Saturday. In addition to the ceremony,
we have youth programming scheduled all during that weekend. There will
be workshops in each time slot specially designed for youth. There is
social time for young adults and bridgers scheduled.
We also want to encourage young adults to attend students, members and
friends. There will be workshops on campus ministry and young adult
organizing and an opportunity to assist with the bridging ceremony.
Representatives from the JPD-UU Young Adult Network (UUYAN) will be
present and the annual meeting is a great place to network. Go to
http://jpd.uua.org for registration materials and other details.

5. Soulful Sundown at
UU Fellowship of Harford County
located at 2515 Churchville road in Churchville, MD
April 6th, 6 PM
"Outrageous Celebration of Life"
If you like Widespread Panic, The Grateful Dead, and other "Jam Bands," then
you'll love Aaron Daniel Gaul and his band. The worship centers on the
sacred space at the core of improvisational music generation, the creative
fire that sparks between players and the audience, respect and love for
the creative power, and tending the Creative Well with care. Music
made out of love for love is its own ministry.

creative writing and artwork in a professional-looking magazine style.
The editor is responsible for producing 2-4 issues per year of Ferment
(see possible schedule below), including:
-Announcing upcoming themes for issues, if appropriate (themes are
chosen in consultation with the UUA Director of Young Adult and Campus Ministry)
-Seeking appropriate submissions of articles, creative writing and artwork
-Editing articles for clarity and content
-Layout of each issue in appropriate software

The editor reports to the UUA Director of Young Adult and Campus
Ministry, who serves as publisher for Ferment. The editor is paid a stipend of

Union Summer Internships
Union Summer is an internship sponsored by the AFL-CIO which began in 1996.
Since that time we have had over 2500 student interns working on many
different campaigns for social and economic justice. Interns have
assisted janitors, healthcare workers, factory workers, retail workers and
public employees in their struggles to gain a voice at work. It has been a
rich experience for both interns and their host unions. In 2003 we are
going to continue the program with significant changes which we think will
improve and enhance the experiences of all concerned.
Key Details about Union Summer 2003
-Expanding program to 5 weeks.
-2 cycles of interns, June 1- July 5 and July 9- August 12.
-Week long training. Each 5 week cycle will begin with one week of
training in Chicago.
-Interns will work in pairs of 2 or groups of 6 depending on campaign needs
-Day and a half debrief in Chicago.
-Focus on students who are currently juniors or seniors. People of
color strongly encouraged to apply
-Union Summer program will continue to pay a weekly stipend of $250.00
per week for food and incidentals (this is a taxed stipend)
